It’s May 24, 2019. Two weeks since I wrote my piece why I was quitting teaching. Nothing has been addressed, not even after my article went viral. Not one word from the District. I asked for help privately since September 2018 regarding the conditions of our school. Now, I asked publicly regarding the conditions of our school. Still nothing! I’m not backing down because our students and teachers deserve better.

On December 19, 2018, I met with the following people: Dianne Hart, Harrison Peters (Chief of Schools), Yinka Alege (Achievement School Director – Learning Network #3), Tamara Shamburger (School Board Chair) and my fellow coworkers. This meeting came to fruition because of a Facebook conversation that started regarding the issues at our school. Since these conversations were happening publicly on Facebook, I’m sure the District leaders were moved to have a conversation with us. Dianne Hart was floored when she heard about this and demanded something to be done.

During this conversation, I’ve provided Yinka Alege emails that I’ve sent in regards to the issues at our school. I told Alege that we need help. I provided examples of the dangerous behavior occurring with little to no consequences. Although our school has a new principal, we still have major concerns. Ms. Anderson was thrown into the fire instead of the District fixing the real problem. Ms. Anderson is a wonderful administrator and is doing the best she can with the situation she was placed in.

On May 21, 2019, Mr. Alege visited our school, in the middle of our awards ceremony. He was invited to speak on stage, the same stage I was standing on. The same stage where I was presenting our students with their end-of-the-year awards and hugs. He refused to speak to me and left before I could have a conversation. To date, I have not had a conversation with him or anyone from the District, but they sure have had a lot to say to the media about me.

Why won’t Hillsborough County Public Schools contact me? Why are they seemingly avoiding me? I don’t know. What I do know is that I will see them on June 11, 2019, at the school board meeting. This isn’t about me, it is about our children. I have some questions and I plan on getting some answers. I hope that you will join me.
